Cause: The Aurora Women’s Pavilion of Aurora West Allis Medical Center is a full-service women’s health center for the care of women and infants including those that need the special services of a neonatal intensive care nursery. We want to increase our ability to provide mental health support for women during and after their pregnancy.
Women are more at risk of depression while they are pregnant, and during the weeks and months after having a baby. During pregnancy, hormone changes can affect brain chemicals and cause depression and anxiety. Depression during pregnancy can affect the mom and baby leading to miscarriage, preterm delivery, and low birth weight babies or affect their ability to cope after delivery. We are working to help women be aware of their symptoms, access professional services and community resources to support them to come during and after their pregnancy.
